Historical Research Library
From Tuesday 21 July, City of Parramatta Libraries will be extending access to its services in line with the NSW Government’s staged easing of COVID-19 restrictions.
Customers will now be able to reserve access to computer stations, study tables and books for collection, subject to terms and conditions.
Limited walk-in access will also be available for browsing.
In efforts to minimise physical contact and protect customers and staff, the number of visitors will be restricted and opening hours limited.
City of Parramatta operates a Local Studies and Family History Library that offers workshops, talks and displays throughout the year and an extensive collection of multimedia resources to help you research your ancestry, house history and the local area. The collection includes:
- old maps and newspapers that provide a glimpse into the past
- photographs from 1860, including images of historic buildings and churches, as well as street scenes of Parramatta and the surrounding districts
- books to help beginner genealogists learn how to conduct and organise their research.
Qualified staff and volunteers are available to assist you with family and local history research. Many resources can be accessed on our Archives website while original objects, texts, family history, records and maps can be viewed at the research library. Selected images are also available from our picture and map collections for purchase.
Please contact the Library to make an appointment with the Genealogy or Regional Studies facilitators.
