City of Parramatta provides 360 beautiful and diverse parks and reserves for residents, visitors and workers to enjoy. These open spaces offer a variety of opportunities for active and passive recreational activities as well as interaction with local native flora and fauna. Many of our larger parks include barbecue and picnic facilities, making them perfect for get-togethers with family and friends in a natural setting. Playgrounds are also provided in more than 150 of our parks and reserves for children to enjoy, learn and interact.
In addition, we have designated a number of parks and reserves for:
- letting your dog off-leash
- children to participate in water play activities including fountains, tipping buckets, water jets/sprays and other interactive features
- casual and seasonal hire
What’s happening here? Sections of Rosella Park closed for remediation and improvement
Investigations undertaken at Rosella Park, Harris Park in August 2020 have revealed that areas of the site are impacted by asbestos containing material.
Materials were found underground and air monitoring undertaken during the investigations showed there is no immediate risk to the public. However, Council will be taking precautionary measures to ensure the park remains safe and parts of the park will remain closed until remediation work is completed.
Council is taking specialist advice for interim and long-term remediation and will improve the capping layer between the materials and the grassed surface of Rosella Park.
Once the remediation method is approved, the work will be undertaken by a licensed asbestos contractor and will be overseen by an independent licensed asbestos assessor.
Until this work is completed fencing will remain in place to ensure there is no potential for the site to be disturbed.
